Recreation Island

South Pacific Hilton

.This island was used for recreation, but the nearby village was off limits, due to the usual reasons. Not exactly the South Pacific Hilton, nevertheless it was a welcome replacement for Atlantic City or Coney Island.

This little village was built on stilts in the water. The bamboo streets, designed to support small-framed natives, could not hold the weight of the average American sailor.
